Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s Northampton shoe factory. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save the family business from bankruptcy, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola. A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he’s meant to be.

As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible… and discovers that when you change your mind, you can change the world.

Inspired by a true story and based on the Miramax film written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth

“Glorious feel-good musical... Henry, absolutely fabulous... Enjoyable, punchy songs. ”

Michael Coveney (What's on Stage, The Stage, Independent)

“Donnelly makes Charlie a lovable hero... Infectious energy and richly enjoyable performances. ”

Henry Hitchings (Evening Standard)

“Physical dynamism... Won me over through the quality of the lead performances, the verve of its staging and its conviction. ”

Michael Billington (The Guardian)

“Broadway sends a British film back home as a hit musical that's as fun as it is frequently fabulous. ”

Mark Shenton (The Stage, London Theatre, Express)

“Engaging verve and vim... Mr Henry... gives a storming performance. Mr Donnelly slowly wins us round... Blistering! ”

Quentin Letts (Daily Mail)

“Very, very Broadway... The showcase drag pieces are acrobatic, spectacular, breathtaking, glittery and funny. ”

Libby Purves (TheatreCat, Times)

“Lola... lash fabulous and wig-tastic... played with marvellous style by Matt Henry. ”

Ann Treneman (Times)

“Fabulously sassy, uplifting and ever so kinky... The script plays up the comedy well... Eccentric costumes and high-octane dance”

Time Out (Other reviewers)

“Lauper and Fierstein deliver a musical with all the juggernaut energy of Broadway without queering its essential Britishness. ”

Neil Norman (Express, The Stage)

“"The History of Wrong Guys”... splendidly performed by Amy Lennox... Donnelly’s superb voice stole the show. ”

West End Whingers

“Poppy, nicely varied – if lyrically straggly – score... It's good fun but, in my view, a bit too formulaic to induce rapture. ”

Paul Taylor (The Independent)

“It may at times look as colourful as a pride carnival parade, but you can hear the creak of the production-line... Formulaic.”

Dominic Cavendish (The Telegraph)

“Mitchell’s production is brimful of colour and, in the catwalk scene, choreographic verve, but it often creaks and seldom soars.”

Susannah Clapp (The Observer)

“The songs are shoehorned into the plot, contributing little in the way of local colour or emotional development. ”

Michael Arditti (Express)
