The untold story of Carole King's journey from school girl to superstar; from her relationship with husband and song-writing partner Gerry Goffin, their close friendship and playful rivalry with fellow song-writing duo Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, to her remarkable rise to stardom.

She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and sold her first hit, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, when she was just seventeen. By the time she reached her twenties she had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll from Aretha Franklin to the Monkees, the Drifters, to the Shirelles. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice.

With words and music by Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the show features classics including So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain until September, Take Good Care of my Baby, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up on the Roof, Locomotion, One Fine Day, You’ve Got a Friend, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and I Feel the Earth Move.

“Carole King biomusical spawns a star in London as it has done on Broadway”

“A likeable, zestful show. ”

Paul Taylor (The Independent)

“This show is sweet and happy as pie.”

Quentin Letts (Daily Mail)

“This gently enjoyable show deserves to find an audience... Brayben feels like a star in the making. ”

Henry Hitchings (Evening Standard)

“What a thoroughly pleasant night at the theatre this is.”

Dominic Maxwell (The Times)

“Greatest hits are performed with admirable verve and enthusiasm by Katie Brayben... a show with great heart. ”

Other newspaper reviewers

“This West End musical’s attempts to weave King’s songs into her life story leaves you none the wiser as to who she was”

Michael Billington (The Guardian)

“All-too-conventional bio-musical, thrillingly elevated by Katie Brayben’s stellar performance as Carole King”

The Stage (Other reviewers)

“The career-making, all-woman performance...from relative newcomer Katie Brayben lifts it into the realm of the 'go-see'. ”

Dominic Cavendish (The Telegraph)

“Katie Brayben is winning in the extreme as the nerdy King... But really, there’s not a lot here beyond the songs. ”

Andrzej Lukowski (Time Out)

“Great songs linked by fragments of safe biography... Beautiful feels so much more old-fashioned than its material. ”

What's on Stage (Other reviewers)

“This is a race through King’s early years with frequent hit-stops... Katie Brayben adds spice to the show’s blancmange. ”

Neil Norman (Express, The Stage)

“The woman-finding-her-own-voice theme, hardly original in itself, is given a marshmallow, fluffy-sentimental treatment. ”

Ian Shuttleworth (Financial Times)
