“Dazzling, dizzying and delightful on its own terms... It is done very, very well... Nicholas: a remarkable tour-de-force. ”

Other newspaper reviewers

“A pleasant surprise... Delirious silliness that makes you go with the flow... By sheer force of geniality, works its magic. ”

Sarah Crompton (What's On Stage, Guardian)

“I gradually found myself won over by the blend of spectacle, illusion and corn... Less Thief of Baghdad than Thief of Bad Gag. ”

Michael Billington (The Guardian)

“Family musical of class, wit and invention – a sure-fire West End hit... Nicholas is at once hilarious and lovable. ”

Mark Shenton (The Stage, London Theatre, Express)

“The Genie is show-stealingly brilliant... charismatic, warm and very funny... A well-judged air of mischief and spectacle. ”

Henry Hitchings (Evening Standard)

“What makes Nicholaw’s production hard to resist is its sheer energy and its knowing tone... Wonderful designs. ”

Sarah Crompton (What's On Stage, Guardian)

“A pantomime... The humour hits the spot with Ashman’s dry lyrics... Glitter-doused Nicholas: staggeringly good. ”

Andrzej Lukowski (Time Out)

“Panto season has begun early... The acting is two-dimensional... Amusingly over-the-top sets... The heart remains unengaged. ”

Quentin Letts (Daily Mail)

“Nicholas strikes a welcome if jarring note of black, urban, and sunny-side-up authenticity... Some good gags. ”

Dominic Cavendish (The Telegraph)

“There's been a cull of the animals that featured in the 1992 cartoon... Some breathtaking special effects... Old-fashioned. ”

Paul Taylor (The Independent)

“The Genie remains intact. In the comfortably upholstered shape of Nicholas he is the undoubted star... You’ll believe in magic. ”

Neil Norman (Express, The Stage)

“Slim pickings, musically speaking... Nicholas is the one thing to come between thinking adults and terminal boredom. ”

Arts Desk (other reviewers)

“Brief moments of wonder... A big yes for the cave, the carpet and Genie. But a big glittery thumbs down for the rest. ”

West End Whingers

“Too arch for children and too trite for adults, it is hard to see at whom this slick, cynical show is aimed. ”

Michael Arditti (Express)
