Queen Cymbeline rules over a divided dystopian Britain. When Innogen, the only living heir, marries her sweetheart in secret, an enraged Cymbeline banishes him. Behind the throne, a figure plots to seize power by murdering them both.

In exile, Innogen’s husband is tricked into believing she has been unfaithful, forcing her away from court on a journey fraught with danger.

Shakespeare’s late play of power, jealousy, sexuality and identity is stunningly retold for the 21st century with the first woman to take on the role for the RSC.

“Cymbeline as Ugg-booted Boadicea proves a surprisingly successful interpretation... The storytelling is crystal clear. ”

Theo Bosanquet (Time Out, What's On Stage)

“A dystopic vision of a world in decay... Aims for young energy, which sometimes comes at the expense of anything subtler.”

Tom Birchenough (Arts Desk)
